Ally Westover makes decorated folk music out of Nashville, Tennessee, “blending lullaby-like sounds with groovy indie-folk tunes, stitched together with warmth, imagery, and honesty,” as described by The Bluegrass Situation. Her sophomore EP,
Changing Room, is a coming-of-age vignette that explores themes of deeply suppressed queer identity and the challenges of navigating the digital world. In these tracks, one will hear samples of the S-Bahn — the German train, where Westover spent many years aboard, pondering her role in the world as a teenage girl.
Co-produced with Oliver Hopkins of Volunteer Department, the release of Changing Room marks a pivotal moment in Westover’s career as she steps fully into her truth. With her poignant new single
Stained Glass on the horizon, and a collection of live demos recorded at The Bomb Shelter soon to follow, Westover is carving out a resonant space in today’s indie-folk landscape.
